Eleven ambassadors for Sister Cities Yorktown arrived in Port-Vendres, France, on July 13, just in time to celebrate Bastille Day. An ambitious itinerary included official ceremonies, a parade, fireworks, delicious meals, a Mediterranean cruise, outdoor concerts, visits to important sites and most importantly, time spent with new friends as a result of home stays. “Everyone is so nice and lovely,” writes Debra Ramey Paulus, who is there with husband, Jim. “I cannot think of enough words to describe how amazing Port-Vendres is. We are blessed to have this opportunity.” Andy Kleeger, with wife Diane, emailed “This has been an absolutely amazing experience, and we’re only halfway in.”

Sister Cities Yorktown awarded the Quintilla Medal to Port-Vendres Mayor Jean-Pierre Romero, for his commitment to our shared goals of educational and cultural exchange. SCY President Timorah Beals reports, “Jean-Pierre was very surprised and emotional,” at the presentation. She adds, “Everyone is very kind. I fear we can never repay the favor.”

Travelers return home on July 17.
