Be part of this opportunity of a lifetime! Our French sister city, Port-Vendres, has extended an invitation for a delegation of 10 citizen ambassadors to join them for Bastille Day celebrations in July. Representatives from Sister Cities Yorktown would arrive in Port-Vendres on Thursday, July 13, and depart Port-Vendres on Monday, July 17. Ambassadors will be treated to a full program of events, site seeing tours and delicious food and wine typical of this Mediterranean region at the foot of the Pyrenees. A special committee in Port-Vendres is working hard on a big program of events to delight “new friends and old friends,” as reported by Georges Grau, who has visited Yorktown twice.

We still have some openings, so we are extending the application deadline until Monday, April 10.

SCY Ambassadors are expected to have a current passport, and to pay for air fare and spending money. The host community will provide housing (“homestay” will a local family), tours and most meals for the SCY delegation.

Sister Cities Yorktown is following the example of other sister city organizations, requesting interested ambassadors to complete the attached application. Applications are due Monday, April 10. Final delegates will be notified immediately.

Selected Ambassadors will be required to abide by all the rules and regulations set forth by Sister Cities Yorktown, as well as attend all pre-travel educational sessions and meetings. Ambassadors must be SCY members in good standing ($25 annual dues). A $150 non-refundable fee is required if selected for travel; this fee covers common shared expenses, for example, evacuation insurance that will be obtained by the organization. Payment is due upon selection.

Ambassadors will be expected to share their experiences with membership upon return.
