L’Hermione left its French port of Rochefort today, as it begins its 27-day journey across the Atlantic to Yorktown, its first U.S. port of call. The ship will arrive on June 5 and delight visitors to the Yorktown waterfront until June 8, when it resumes its voyage up the Eastern seaboard of the U.S. While in port, visitors will be treated to deck and ship tours, a Heritage Village, entertainment and educational activities.
The replica celebrates teh 235th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette’s departure from France to bring his support to the continental army, ultimately leading the blockage that led to the surrender of General Cornwallis. The replica project began in 1997.
