On our first day in France we went with our correspondent to a few periods at school. The subjects varied greatly, but the students whose correspondent had math weren’t allowed in the room! After that we ate a French cafeteria lunch and then went to Perpignan to watch the Easter Procession of the Saints. It was very, very interesting and was nothing like we had ever seen before. After the procession we were allowed time to walk and shop around Perpignan. Then we returned to Ceret on the bus so we could go home with our families for the weekend.

Two questions: why weren’t the students allowed in the math room? In what ways were the Easter procession unlike anything you had seen before?

The teachers didn’t want more people in the room because they thought there was no space left. And we’ve never seen people dressed in black and red robes with pointy hats walking in circles with religious depictions.

Thank you so much for your faithful commentary. Reminds me of our wonderful adult exchange to Porte Vendres a few years ago
