Sunset from the balcony, Chez Grau

Postcard from Port-Vendres
Bonjour! It is so wonderful to be “home” in Port-Vendres. The weather is unusually chilly for May, but the sun has been glorious. We don’t anticipate a swim in the Mediterranean any time soon, though! We can’t get enough of fresh produce from the market, fresh fish from the criée, and fresh bread from the boulangère closest to the Obelisk. Cherry season just opened, and the market stalls are full of tiny artichokes violettes , fresh fava beans, and wild strawberries from the garrigue. Such treats! Jim has been catching up on what’s new among the region’s wines.
We are enjoying friends, including Antoinette Quintilla, Annie de Cruz, Georges & Michele Grau, Charlette & JP SiPierre, Georges Michel, Arlette Ceglarski, and others. Everyone sends their warmest regards to Yorktown, and they are eager for the upcoming student and citizen exchanges this fall.
Antoinette is amazing and courageous as she continues her challenging recovery from a devastating fall last October. She was able to be excused from the rehabilitation hospital to host a special lunch on Saturday. She hopes to return to her home by late July. She knows you all are thinking of her.
Á bientot, Deborah
